Survival TV Series

Getting a dose of how it feels like to star on your own survival series is something I never had imagined to happen. As of this moment, people in different countries are fighting for their existence with the ever so silent yet brutal enemy, the NCovid-19. For so many years, our life has been threatened with the likes of the Y2K bug, a programming problem that will cause computer systems to malfunction and crash, and the Mayan calendar, 2012, end of times prediction. Though none of these did happen, our quest for living continues and our fascination for survival deepens.

This pandemic has caused many nations to be on lockdown to mitigate its spread or a community quarantine to monitor the mobility of the virus. In the Philippines, in our area, a curfew has been strictly implemented and nocturnal people have no choice but to stay quietly in their homes. Well, this article is something that is timely and help kill the boredom. I have here the list of TV series I have watched that deals with humanity’s survival.

Containment
Containment

Containment (2016)

To start, we have The CW’s Containment. This is like a baby project of Julie Plec, the producer of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The 2 main leads were former alum of the vampire series. Containment revolves around an epidemic that struck Atlanta and forces them to put the whole city in a lockdown. The series run for 13 episodes only and was not renewed for a second season. Nevertheless, I had fun watching the show till the end. The sex scene inside the lockdown is heartbreaking.

The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead (2010)

The one that started the craze of human extinction and survival. The Walking Dead which premiered on October of 2010 and consists of only 6 episodes is now on its 11th season (release date is yet to be decided). The show is an adaptation of a comic series of the same name. The Walking Dead is like ’28 Weeks Later’ and ‘World War Z’ story combined though no cure is yet to be found in Rick Grime’s world.

The 100
The 100

The 100 (2014)

Another series from The CW network that is targeted for teenage viewers and has captured my interest when it was aired. The gist of the story is to go back to Earth after floating in space for more than 100 years because of a nuclear apocalypse that happened before. One hundred (100) teenagers were sent down to investigate if Earth is now habitable for humans. The first 2 season was EPIC! By the way, one of the main lead is half Filipino.

Falling Skies

Falling Skies (2011)

A post-apocalyptic science fiction series produced by Steven Spielberg. I love the unfolding of events, the suspense on every episode and of course the production value of the series. Since this is a science fiction, expect for a heavily armored CGI each run. Though just like other series, the story will drag after its second season or you will just lose interest on their salvation.

Final Note:

The above series are testament that humanity will not stand idly by if face with the same predicament. That we, humans, have an innate will to survive. We succumbed not to fear rather we persevere in adversities. That we never let hardships prevent us from moving forward to look for a glimmer of hope and that someday a stable bright future in a utopian setting will be achieved.
